"Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah disdaineth (aught) save that He shall perfect His light, however much the disbelievers are averse." — Holy Qur'an 9:32

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Ya Ali Madad! Ramadan Mubarak! On this twenty third night of Holy Ramadan which started on Saturday evening, September 12, 2009, let us reflect deeply on the following tawils on the topics of Lail-tul Qadr, bandagi and ism-i azam:

  1. Tawil for the word 'Ahsan' (The very best):
"In verse (39:23) there is the praise of the Holy Qur'an externally and of ism-i azam internally, because the chosen ones of God remember Him by His ism-i azam internally, which is "ahsanu'l-hadith (the best speech)", and is from God. It is a book full of ta'wil (wisdom) which is read repeatedly and by its regular dhikr, the bodies of those who fear God tremble, then their bodies and hearts become tender and tend to the miraculous dhikr (bandagi) of Allah."
Source: Tawil No. 30, A Thousand Wisdoms, pp.33-34

  2. Tawil for the word 'Yursilu' (He sends/will send):
"It is said in verse (71:11): "He will send you the heaven showering abundant rain." That is, by the command of God, the light of Imamat will appear in your heart (through bandagi), by the blessing of which the rain of spiritual knowledge will continue to pour upon you."
Source: Tawil No. 979, A Thousand Wisdoms, pp.509-510

  3. Tawil for the word 'Yudriku' (He obtains, catches, overtakes):
"It is said in verse (6:103): "Eyesights cannot attain Him but He attains (all) eyesights." That is, it is not possible for the human eyesight to see Him, but He Himself becomes the eyes of the 'arifs, as mentioned in the sacred hadith of nawaafil (supererogatory acts) that God becomes the eye of His friend."
Source: Tawil No. 977, A Thousand Wisdoms, p.509

  4. Tawil for the word 'Yatim' (Unique):
"You on your own will not be able to go close to the spiritual knowledge of the Imam, except through ism-i azam. Then in your personal world you have to work hard and serve the Imam from spiritual childhood to full youth."
Source: Tawil No. 966, A Thousand Wisdoms, p.504

  5. Tawil for the words 'Ya'juj wa Ma'juj' (The army of the Lord of the Time):
"It is said in verse (21:96): "Until, when Gog and Magog are let loose, and they will hasten out of every elevated place." That is, the atomic army or the army of (spiritual) particles will come out of the Imam and all other hudud under him and accomplish the work of spiritual jihad and inner resurrection."
Source: Tawil No. 961, A Thousand Wisdoms, p.502

  6. Tawil for the words 'Ya'juj wa Ma'juj' (Spiritual Army):
"The attack of Gog and Magog becomes a source of mercy and blessings for the those who, through special knowledge, good deeds, permission and the discipline of vigil (bandagi) have been able, by the grace of God, to bear the bitterness of voluntary death and the severity of personal resurrection, and obtain the precious treasures of spirituality and intellectuality. As for the rest, the exalted Imam prevents Gog and Magog or the army of (spiritual) particles from attacking them."

Key Insights:

  1. In order to understand the Holy Qur'an, it is first necessary to study it externally. However, in order to understand the wisdom of the Holy Qur'an, the only door is bandagi. There is no other short cut.

  2. An assessment of what can be learned with ism-i azam is given in the first ayats of Surah 'Alaq: The Clot (Surah No. 96):

"Proclaim! (or read!) in the name (ism-i azam) of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created — Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful, — He Who taught (the use of) the pen, — Taught man that which he knew not."

  3. The Holy Imam, the Lord of present (zaman) and eternal time (asr), has a spiritual army which is used to build the personal spiritual world of mumins. However, this grace is given to only those who are blessed with special knowledge, perform good deeds, have the permission through ism-i azam and practice bandagi regularly.

  4. The fundamental message for this Lail-tul Qadr is to make a commitment to perform bandagi regularly. In this way every night becomes a Lail-tul Qadr. Then with the power of bandagi, we would have the strength to tirelessly serve the Imam of the time and meet his expectations of the nazrana of time and knowledge.
