:: Candle Post #82 :: What are the benefits of Jamati Satado Prayers? ::

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Ya Ali Madad. The Jamati Mushkil Aasan satado will commence on Friday, April 30 and end on Thursday, May 6, 2010 in Canada. One of the key congregational satado prayer will be 'Ya Ali tu Rahem Kar, Ya Mowla tu Fazal Kar' which means 'Ya Ali send mercy upon us, O Mowla make us prosperous'. In the material world, the word 'prosperous' can be applied to health, job security, family and human relationships, knowledge, property and service to humanity. In the Spirit world, the word 'prosperous' is also applicable for the acquisition of spiritual wealth which comes in the form of knowledge and recognition.

In order to get the maximum benefit of the Jamati Mushkil Aasan satado, let us reflect on the following points:

Part 1: What are the benefits of collective remembrance?

"Dhikr-i Jamat (Collective remembrance): Within the collective dhikr-u ibadat are hidden many blessings and benefits. Thus, it is wise for a believing servant that he should always and on every occasion remain linked with the Jamat for this sacred and pure act so that he, in addition to personal reward, may be granted that special award which amounts to the reward of the whole Jamat. That is to say that, in the Day of Resurrection, he will be revived in the collective and national spirit. And this is the greatest success. You may have certainly experienced several times that there is the feeling of abundant and unbounded delight, pleasure and happiness in the collective dhikr-u bandagi."

Part 2: How does a spiritual majlis strengthen a true mu'min?

"A spiritual majlis is the only means through which every true Ismaili, after creating the beauties of faith within himself, becomes rapt and blessed with the luminous (noorani) results of the true love of the living and present Imam and can discover the spiritual merit of his exalted and sacred religion, which is full of luminous wonders and spiritual miracles, by observing which, he can attain experiential knowledge and perfect certainty and then his heart will proclaim that his faith and religion are true."

Part 3: What are the extraordinary benefits of a spiritual majlis?

"In a spiritual majlis, due to the harmony of thinking, unanimity of sincere devotees, abundance of dhikr and above all blessings of invisible help, the speed of spiritual ascension and progress resembles a fast working machine, which due to the rapidity of its speed and abundant parts and instruments, can do a great quantity of work in a short time. Further it is important to know that if it is a fact that every difficult worldly work which an individual cannot do, can be done easily by a group, it is also true that in comparison to an individual and separate struggle of a mu'min for spiritual progress, the collective prayer, ibadat, dhikr of mu'mins and all other communal spiritual matters become very easy and have far-reaching consequences."
Source: A Key to Wisdom, p.72

Part 4: How does a spiritual majlis change a mu'mins behaviour?

"The place of worship (i.e., Jamat Khana) and spiritual majlis can desirably and fully benefit the true mu'min whose heart is illuminated with the light of faith, and who receives happiness and pleasure from ibadat, sees his well-being in obedience to the Imam of the time, remembers Mawla all the time in heart and thought, is a well-wisher of his spiritual brothers and sisters, yearns to hear discourses of religious knowledge and is pious and a lover of light (Noor)."
Source: A Key to Wisdom, pp.72-73

Part 5: How does a true mu'min benefit from a spiritual majlis?

"Another form of man's influenced and influencing is that by Divine help and by means of knowledge and ibadat, he is capable of having a desirable influence on himself. Thus every dhakir (one who remembers God) benefits not only from the ethical and spiritual influence of other dhakirs, but also has the best chance of influencing himself by his own humble ibadat, prayer and dhikr."
Source: A Key to Wisdom, p.73

Part 6: What is the purpose of our life on earth?

"The human soul, in its original state, was made from the light of God and had all the attributes of seeing and knowing the unseen and of doing everything. But when it wore an earthly attire, then due to the worldly and physical impurities, it became rusty and the mirror of its heart, which was able to show the unseen, become covered with sensuality and lost the characteristics due to which it was like the Guarded Tablet. The problem becomes aggravated if this precious treasure, which is a compendium of the pleasures of knowledge and action of both worlds is continuously neglected.

Regarding the consequences of the purification of such a soul and its neglect, God says: "Verily he succeeded who purified it, and he failed who buried it." (91:9-10). Thus, the best way of purifying the soul is a spiritual majlis in which every true mu'min can clean the mirror of his soul and bring it back to the original state in which it can show the unseen. Otherwise, it remains in the dust of misdeeds and the darkness of ignorance. This is a prelude of eternal failure. Thus, it is the first and foremost duty of a true mu'min not to keep interred this sacred trust of God, which is made from His universal light. On the contrary, he should spend a greater part of his daily time of his worldly life protecting, purifying and nurturing this blessed trust of God."

In preparation for the satado, let us start the purification process by reciting the "Ya Ali tu Rahem Kar, Ya Mowla Tu Fazal Kar" tasbi which means "O Ali, have mercy Upon Us; O Mowla, make us prosperous in terms of material and spiritual wealth and higher spiritual enlightenment".
