Eighth Night of Holy Ramadan :: Oct. 11, 2005

Ya Ali Madad! In the Muslim calendar, a new month begins at sunset, therefore, Tuesday, October 11, 2005 is the eighth night of the Holy Ramadan for Ismailis in Canada. This posting for this auspicious eighth night of Holy Ramadan has three parts: Part 1 has a gem of knowledge from Pir Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi, or "Advices of Manliness" of Imam NOOR Mowlana Shah Mustansir bi'l-laah II; Part 2 has a verse from a beautiful ginan of Pir Shams; and Part 3 has a zikr tasbi which will change every three days.   Let us first read the following esoteric list of noble wishes for 30 days because it is the basis of our ardent supplication to our beloved NOOR Mowlana Hazir Imam: Ya Mowla, Ya Wali, Ya Karim, Ya Ali, Ya NOOR Mowlana Hazir Imam: bless us with faith by sending the bounty of Ruhu'l-iman (i.e., spiritual and luminous particles of the soul of faith) into our personal worlds from your Pure Soul and Eternal Light; forgive our sins, mistakes and oversights and make us staunch, obedient (farman bardari) mu'mins; keep us on the Right Path, the path illuminated by the Light of Eternal Ali; purify our souls through the blessings derived from our additional dhikr and help us live a balanced life; make us regular in our morning and evening prayers; bless us with inspiration, strength, courage and conviction to practise luminous prayer (bandagi) at the luminous time (small watches of the night) with the luminious word (bol, ism-i azam or Ya Ali tasbi); bestow enlightenment to our souls and bless us with a 'golden noorani didar'*; usher us in the abode of peace (Dar-as-Salaam) and grant us eternal existence. Ameen. Part 1: Teaching of Imam NOOR Mowlana Shah Mustansir bi'l-laah II (a.s.) In Pir Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi, Imam NOOR Mowlana Shah Mustansir bi'l-laah II (a.s.) teaches us about the recognition of the Light of the Imam. "The real man is one who is hospitable. This does not mean that he will be like a lion at another's table, or like a fox. His face is always friendly. He has a true love for and perfect faith in the Imam of his time. He tries to attain that lasting wealth, the recognition of the Imam of the time. He is benevolent and well-behaved, as one should be, being kind and friendly to the friends and devotees ('ashiqan) of that Lord (Mawla)." (pages 10-11) Part 2: Teaching of Pir Shams In the following verse of ginan from Pir Shams's Kesri si(n)h svaroop bhulaayo teach us that 'Ali is now and Ali is forever': Eji Kesri si(n)h svaroop bhulaayo Aja kere sange aja hoi rahyo Ese bharam-me(n) jivanku(n) bhulaayo Bharam sab chhodi bhai Ali Ali karna Hay bi Ali ne hoyse bi Ali Esa vachan tame dil maa(n)he dharna Esa vachan tame dil maa(n)he dharna Bharam sab chhodi bhai Ali Ali karna   O Brother The lion forgot its lionish form, and in the company of goats it lived as a goat. In such delusion life's purpose is forgotten. Forsaking all delusion, brother, keep reciting the name of Ali. 'Ali is now and Ali will be' are the words you should take to heart. Such are the words you should take to heart. These verses of supplication soften, heal and purify the soul, and prepare it for enlightenment.   Part 3: Zikr Tasbi According to the following ahadith of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), all human beings commit sins, but the real believers repent for their sins and seek forgiveness from the Merciful Lord: "Anas reported God's messenger as saying, "All the sons of Adam are sinners, but the best of sinners are those who are given to repentance." "(Hazrat) Ali reported God's messenger as saying, "God loves the believing servant who is severely tried and is penitent." One of the benefits of the zikr of tasbis derived from Divine names is the pardon of sins. Therefore, let us use a bouquet of Ya Qadir, Ya Nasir, Ya Tauba, Ya Salaam (O Powerful, O Helper, O Forgiver, O the Source of Peace) for spiritual upliftment.
