Holy Ramadan - Holy Ginan Postings
(Project Duration: 30-days from October 15 to November 13, 2004)

Postings for Days 21 to 30

Date: Nov. 4, 2004
Subject: Posting 21: Holy Ramadan - Holy Ginan Project

The 21th night of the Holy Ramadan starts on Thursday evening, November 4, 2004. On this aupicious night, let us supplicate with a couple of verses of ginan, read an excerpt from supplications of Amir al-mu'minin, Hazrat NOOR Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) and then perform zikr for forgiveness of our sins by reciting the Holy Salwat.

In Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi, Imam NOOR Mowlana Shah Mustansir bi'l-laah II (a.s.) teaches us about the status and function of Pirs (Source: pages 27-28 of the text Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi translated by W. Ivanow, The Ismaili Society Series A No. 6):

"O, believers, on the day of the Resurrection, except for the perfect pir, all other pirs, mirs and brothers will stand trembling, not one being able to utter a word (of intercession). But your (real) pir, who helped you in this world, will also become your helper and protector in the hereafter. Therefore do not give up following him, as you belong to that world and must enjoy it and rejoice there. Therefore do not be bound in this world by rejoicing, enjoyment of power, position, rank or respect. With every day, you must keep on intensifying your love and service to one another, to your pir, and your Imam, never remaining dependent on this world which is transient and without real substance and worth." (pages 27-28)

In the following verse from Moti Venti, Pir Hasan Kabirdin first supplicates to the Holy Imam for spiritual union and then prays for the salvation of all souls.

Eji sohâg sâmi mârâ âpajo
jê anatthi uthâya
unâ purâ jê âshvan(n)tâ
sâmi sarvê pâr la(n)gâya
mahêr karo morâ sâ(n)hiyâ
abarâ sharan tamâri
0 Lord, Bless me with (spiritual) union
so that I can bear the burden of innumerable souls.
Imperfect, perfect and even hopeful souls who come to Thee,
0 Lord, grant them all salvation.
Have mercy on me, my Lord.
I am helpless and dependent on you.

The following excerpt from Supplications of Amir al-mu'minin, Hazrat NOOR Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) will form a pillar for this project (Source: KHUTBA-81: A lesson about how to pray for His forgiveness, p. 46 Nahjul-Balagha). Please take a moment to read this supplication everyday in order to gain maximum benefit:

  1. Lord! Forgive my sins which Thou know better than I.
  2. Lord! If I repeat these sins please let Thy forgiveness cover them again.
  3. Lord! I have always promised myself to obey Thy commands and have always broken these promises. Forgive this weakness of mine.
  4. Lord! I have always declared that I shall come near Thee but my mind (has) opposed this, forgive this fault of my mind.
  5. Lord! Forgive the sins committed by my eyes. Forgive my vicious and sinful utterances, and forgive my inability to resist temptations. (Ameen)

One of the benefits of salwat tasbi is pardon of sins. Therefore, let us use a bouquet of salwats for the purification of our souls. Real Audio sound tracks are available for your convenience.

Subject: Posting 22: Holy Ramadan - Holy Ginan Project

The 22nd night of the Holy Ramadhan starts on Friday evening, November 5, 2004. On this aupicious night, let us supplicate with a couple of verses of ginan, read an excerpt from supplications of Amir al-mu'minin, Hazrat NOOR Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) and then perform zikr for forgiveness of our sins by reciting tasbis derived from 99 Names of Allah.

In Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi, Imam NOOR Mowlana Shah Mustansir bi'l-laah II (a.s.) teaches us about the recognition of the Light of the Imam (Source: page 29 of the text Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi translated by W. Ivanow, The Ismaili Society Series A No. 6):

"Some people appeal to God while they have no knowledge of the Imam of their time, or oppose him. They should enter the Ark of Noah of the time because all other ships will be drowned. Therefore follow the (spiritual) authority and your leader, so that you may sit in the house of the Truth, entering the Ark of the Noah of your time, and reaching the land safely. That authority, that Noah of your time, is the Imam of your time. Know him, and enter the Ark of Noah, i.e. the path of his preaching (tariqa'i dawat-i u), so that your faith may become perfect and your souls may become safe from calamities. The house which has no windows or openings remains dark. Similarly, the heart of one who does not know the Imam of his time, who is the sun of that period, remains dark, without light and enlightenment." (page 29)
In the following verse from Moti Venti, Pir Hasan Kabirdin implores us to recognize NOOR Mowlana Hazir Imam, externally and internally.

Eji Pir Hasan Kabirdin nâri thainê vinvê
shrivar sâminê vâragu(n)
âj kaljug mâ(n)hê jo gur narnê orkho
to kadi nahi thâshê argu(n)
mahêr karo morâ sâ(n)hiyâ
abarâ sharan tamâri
0 Momins, Pir Hasan Kabirdin pleads like a maiden
to meet the Lord.
In this era, if the believer recognises the Imam of the time,
he will never be separated from him.
Have mercy on me, my Lord.
I am helpless and dependent on you.

Subject: Posting 23: Holy Ramadan - Holy Ginan Project

The 23nd night of the Holy Ramadhan, Laitul Qadr, starts on Saturday evening, November 6, 2004. On this aupicious night, let us supplicate with a couple of verses of ginan, read an excerpt from supplications of Amir al-mu'minin, Hazrat NOOR Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) and then perform zikr by reciting the greatest ayat (verse) of the Holy Qur'an and the Holy salwat. These power prayers will uplift of our souls and enlighten us, especially on Laitul Qadr.

Let us first read a couple of ahadith on the topic of Ayatul Kursi (The Verse of the the Throne):

"Ubayy b Ka'b said: God's messenger asked, "Abul Mundhir, do you know which verse of God's book that you have is the greatest? I replied, "God and His messenger know best." He repeated his question and I said, "God, there is no God but He, the Living, the Eternal." Thereupon he struck me on the breast and said, "May knowledge be pleasant to you, Abul Mundhir!" Muslim transmitted it." (Source: Book VIII - The Excellent Qualities of the Qur'an, p.449; Mishkat al Masabih Vol. 1, Dr. James Robson)

"Abu Huraira reported God' messenger as saying, "If anyone recites in the morning Ha' Mim al-Mu'min to 'to Him is the final goal (Holy Qur'an 40: 1-3) and the Throne Verse (Holy Qur'an 2:255) he will be guarded by them till the evening, and if anyone recites them in the evening he will be guarded by them till the morning." Tirmidhi and Daarimi transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is a gharib tradition. (Source: Book VIII - The Excellent Qualities of the Qur'an, p.454; Mishkat al Masabih Vol. 1, Dr. James Robson)

In the following verse from the Ginan, Hu(n) re piyasi, Sayyed Khaan teaches us to remain focused on the Holy Imam by invoking His name with full concentration.

Eji Didaari hove so esa chahaave
Sahebji-ku(n) chhod kar orku(n) na dhiyaave
Didaari hoy so dil baandhe
Din din adka neh dhare
Ek man ho kar naam leve
Piyuka darshan so kare ji

He who desires the vision should wish not
to pay attention to anything other than the Master.
He who would have the vision attaches his heart to Him,
increasing his love day by day.
Through invoking His name in singleness of mind,
he achieves the vision of the Beloved.

The 24th night of the Holy Ramadhan starts on Sunday evening, November 7, 2004.

Let us first study the following verse of the Holy Qur'an and then read its inner meaning:

"That is (the Bounty) whereof God gives Glad Tidings to His Servants who believe and do righteous deeds. Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this except the love of those near of kin." And if any one earns any good, We shall give him an increase of good in respect thereof: for God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Ready to appreciate (service). (Holy Qur'an 42:23)

Explanation from Qazi Noaman's Code of Conduct for the Followers of the Imam, pp. 21,23:

"When the messenger of God was asked as to who were his kith and kin, he replied "Ali, Fatimah, Hasan and Husain." (p.21)

"Jafer bin Mohammed, may the greetings of God be on him, says, "He who loves us should make his love as pure gold." (p.23)

In the following verse from the Ginan,Sayyed Muhammadshah teaches us to love the Imam of time, NOOR Mowlana Hazir Imam:

Eji Sahebji tu(n) more man bhaave
Avar more chint na aave
Duja more man na bhaave
Sahebji tu(n) more man bhaave

O Lord (Master - Imam)! You are dear to my heart (mind),
nothing else cometh to my mind except You.
My heart does not desire anyone else,
O Lord! You alone are my heart's desire.

Subject: Posting 25: Holy Ramadan - Holy Ginan Project

The 25th night of the Holy Ramadhan starts on Monday evening, November 8, 2004.

In Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi, Imam NOOR Mowlana Shah Mustansir bi'l-laah II (a.s.) describes how the true momins will experience the Light of Hazrat Murtada 'Ali (Source: pages 10 and 7 of the text Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi translated by W. Ivanow, The Ismaili Society Series A No. 6):

"The (real) believer is one who is always patient, pious, sincere and truthful, clean in his beliefs, and modest, whose heart is full of the fear of God, who is free from wrath and hatred, and is pure. In his every action he sees his Lord (Khudawand) present before him, always remembering God. Every slave of God who acts in this way will receive in this world splendour and affluence, and in the hereafter he will be in Paradise, in the presence of his Lord (Mawla-y-i khud), Murtada 'Ali. " (Page 7)
In the following verse from the Ginan, Ame Saheb saathe sahel kidha, Pir Bhikham describes how the Holy Imam bestowed honour, blessing and pleasures of the eternal abode of Light (NOOR) for him, his family and his future progeny:

Eji Purañ purine laja raakhi
Ne kul hamaara ugaariya
Pop parmal agar chandan
Nure bhari amar aaliya ji

  Our Lord has completely fulfilled my desires and protected my honour;
and thus He has also saved my ancestry from suffering from eternal judgement.
He bestowed upon me such divine assurance in an atmosphere
filled with fragrance of flowers, agar and chandan
and overflowing with divine light.

Subject: Posting 26: Holy Ramadan - Holy Ginan Project

The 26th night of the Holy Ramadhan starts on Tuesday evening, November 9, 2004. On this aupicious night, let us supplicate with a verse of ginan, read an excerpt from supplications of Amir al-mu'minin, Hazrat NOOR Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) and listen Sûratu'l-Falaq (the Dawn) and the Sûratu'n-Nâs (the Mankind) which will protect us from the evil forces.

In Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi, Imam NOOR Mowlana Shah Mustansir bi'l-laah II (a.s.) describes that our origin is from the pure world of spheres. Therefore, we have to purify our soul so that it can merge into its origin. (Source: page 52 of the text Pandiyat-i Jawanmardi translated by W. Ivanow, The Ismaili Society Series A No. 6):

"O, believers, learn in a critical way (ba-tahqiq) that you have come from the proximity of the Lord (Khudawand), from the supernatural (batin) world, which is the pure world of the spheres, to this transient world, the earth. You will go back to the Lord. Therefore do your best to see that at the time of the journey back to the Friend you may not go empty-handed, so that you may be proud, not ashamed. Abandon the greed for the pleasures of this world and perfect your attitude to the hereafter."(Page 52)
In the following verse from the Ginan, Kaachi chhe kaaya man haido chhe parmal, Pir Hasan Kabirdin implores us to purify the soul just as gold is refined by heat. It takes a great and consistent effort to develop fragrance and light in the soul.

Eji Kasotiye jem sovan kasiye
Tem kaaya-nu(n) hans kasaavo ho jirebhai

In the manner in which gold is purified by going through
the process of refinement in the presence of heat, exude (or bring out)
the fragrant soul nature of your bodies through physical mortifications
(i.e., practice of the faith), O living brothers!

(Ameen)

"Mu'awwidhatân (or Mu'wwudhantayn), which means the two sûrahs for protection against evil, is the name given to Sûratu'l-Falaq (the Dawn) and the Sûratu'n-Nâs (the Mankind). The reason for giving this name is that in these two wisdon-filled sûrahs, is taught to seek the protection of God, in order to escape all evils. Therefore, they have tremendous protective and curative blessings and effects.

If you want to remain safe and secure, if you cherish the protection of children, life and property and yearn to enter the refuge of the Omnipotent God, to be protected from all evil vices, calamities, afflictions, torments and misfortunes, then continue to recite Ma'udhatayn with great eagerness and absolute certainty." The 27th night of the Holy Ramadhan starts on Wednesday evening, November 10, 2004.

Let us first reflect on the following excerpt of NOOR Mowlana Sultan Muhammad Shah (a.s.) (His Highness the Aga Khan III) from the Memoirs of the Aga Khan, p.334:

"I can only say to everyone who reads this book of mine that it is my profound conviction that man must never ignore and leave untended and undeveloped that spark of the Divine which is in him. The way to personal fulfilment, to individual reconciliation with the Universe that is about us, is comparatively easy for anyone who firmly and sincerely believes, as I do, that Divine Grace has given man in his own heart the possibilities of illumination and of Union with Reality. It is, however, far more important to attempt to offer some hope of spiritual sustenance to those many who, in this age in which the capacity of faith is nonexistent in the majority, long for something beyond themselves, even if it seems second-best. For them there is the possibility of finding strength of the spirit, comfort, and happiness in the contemplation of the infinite variety and beauty of the Universe."(Page 52)
In the following verse from the Ginan, Venati karu(n) chhu(n) Saheb mora, Pir Abdul Nabi teaches us that those momins who practice their faith with conviction will be rewarded with an everlasting kingdom. This is not a small feat because everlasting kingdom implies that the person with be the King or the Queen of the Personal world which will be filled with luminosity (NOOR) and will be blessed with existence. In contrast, those who will not obey the Holy Imam and do not practice the faith with conviction will be in darkness and will become non-existent. For more details refer to enlightenment posting number 40.

Eji Bhai re moman tame bhaave aaraadho
Ne hetesu(n) harine aaj ji
Jeñe ek manthi aapña Saheb sreviya
Te paamiya avichal raaj ji

O brother believer, adore with earnest intent
and love the Lord today.
Those who worship their Master with singleness of mind
attain the everlasting kingdom.

Subject: Posting 28: Holy Ramadan - Holy Ginan Project

The 28th night of the Holy Ramadan starts on Thursday evening, November 11, 2004. On this aupicious night, let us learn about light from two verses of garbi, read an excerpt from supplications of Amir al-mu'minin, Hazrat NOOR Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) and then perform zikr for upliftment of soul by reciting the four phrases which praise Allah, as prescribed by our Holy Prophet.

Let us first reflect upon the relationship between the light of God, light of the holy Prophet, light of the holy Imam and the light of an obedient believer from the following tawil:

Ta'wil of word 'Nur as-samawat' (The light of the personal world, in which there are the Throne, the Dais, the seven heavens and the seven earths):

"It is a miracle of spiritual science that every difficult problem can be resolved easily in the perspective of the personal world. Thus, the absolute light definitely belongs to God, because it is He who is its creator and possessor, and it also belongs to the holy Prophet, as mentioned above. According to (the principle of) "light upon light", it also belongs to the Imam and as a result of obedience and annihilation it also belongs to the people of faith. These four relations of light are established according to Qur'anic proofs. This means that this pure light of God, the Prophet, the true Imam and the people of faith (57:12; 66:8) shines in the sacred Sanctuary of the personal world as mention in the verse of misbah (24:35)." [Source: Tawil 904: A Thousand Wisdoms]

In the following two verses from the Garbi, Tame japjo din raat ke, Pir Shams says that if you remember the Lord day and night, your personal world will be illuminated and it will become eternal.

Tame japjo din raat ke,
mandir maa(n)he mahaaljo re lol

Remember (the name of the Lord) day and night,
and create happiness in your personal world (sanctuary)
1
Jaa(n)ki surti laagi bharmand ke,
amar reljo re lol

When the concentration is focussed at the
middle of the eye brows, you will enjoy immortality.

From the above tawil and verses of ginan, it is clear that the concepts of eternal kingdom (avichal raaj), eternal existence (baqa), amar jaat (eternal kind) are all related to the light of the personal world.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam) gave guidance to Muslims and the humanity for material, spiritual and intellectual upliftment. The rewards of glorifying, praising, declaring Allah's unity and His greatness are among the fundamental concepts of Islam. Therefore, let us put this advice into practice by performing the zikr of Allahu Akbar, Subhan Allah, Al-hamdu Lillah, La ilaha illa-llah (Allah is Great, Glory be to Allah, Praise be to Allah, There is no god but Allah). Subject: Posting 29: Holy Ramadan - Holy Ginan Project

The 29th and the last night of the Holy Ramadan starts on Friday evening, November 12, 2004. On this aupicious night, let us learn about meditation time from a verse of ginan, read an excerpt from supplications of Amir al-mu'minin, Hazrat NOOR Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) and then perform zikr for upliftment of soul by reciting the four phrases which praise Allah, as prescribed by our Holy Prophet.

Let us first reflect upon following excerpt from the speech made by NOOR Mowlana Hazir Imam:

"The day we no longer know how, nor have the time nor the faith to bow in prayer to Allah because the human soul that He has told us is eternal is no longer of sufficient importance to us to be worthy of an hour of our daily working, profit-seeking time, will be a sunless day of despair." Excerpt from Mowlana Hazir Imam's Convocation address at Peshawar University, Pakistan, on November 30, 1967.
The above speech was made to a general audience. However, the Holy Imam has prescribed an hour of extra prayers for the elevation of our soul in the small watches of the night. He has given us the method, prescribed the time, bestowed the luminous word of the esoteric faith, and has explained that the soul is eternal. The True Guide wants us to be enlightened and reach the Abode of Peace (Daras-Salaam).

In the following verse from the Ginan, Nur vela nur piyo, Pir Sadardin implores to practice bandagi at the prescribed time:

Eji Nur vela nur piyo
Aa(n)hi kariyo man aanand ji
Pop vela raakho Shah Pirsu(n) sambandh ji

Tame Jaago jaago bhaida
Raiyañ viyaañiya ji
Tame cheto momanbhaida
Raiyañ viyaañiya ji

O brother! At the time of enlightenment (i.e., at Noorani time),
experience (drink) the Light
and make your heart (soul) joyful.
At the time of the blooming (of the soul),
establish relationship with the Lord
and the Guide through Ism Azam.

O brothers! remain continuously awake
(in knowledge and remembrance) so that
the night of darkness and negligence may pass away.
O momins! be vigilant, so that the night of
darkness and negligence may pass away.

On the eve of Idd-e-Fitr and the first night of the Shawwal (Chandraat), Saturday, November 13, 2004 let us supplicate with a verse of ginan, read an excerpt from supplications of Amir al-mu'minin, Hazrat NOOR Mowlana Murtaza Ali (a.s.) and then perform zikr for upliftment of soul by reciting the four phrases which praise Allah, as prescribed by our Holy Prophet.

Let us first reflect upon following advice of Pir Shihabu'd-din Shah Al-Husayni (Source: True Meaning of Religion, 48-49):

"Thus, with the help of God, in labour and worship, in the struggle with your own evil impulses, with the spiritual knowledge kept alive in your heart, with certainty in reason, with study and the acquisition of a religious education, with the vision of the saints of God and of their example in the heart, by the discharge of your duties, you will attain a high degree of spiritual refinement, as it has been systematically explained. If you do all this, you may attain the degree which you seek. You have to seek it, and it depends upon Him not to leave you without a chance."

In the following verse from the Ginan, Tamku(n) sadhaare so din bahotaj huva re piya, Pir Sadardin supplicates for Divine vision and grace:

Eji Charañ bhetaado aasha najar milaavo piya
Haida maa(n)he maheraj aaño re
Maherbaan...

O Lord! Create the conditions for me to bow at your feet Oh Lord,
and for my eyes to meet Your sweet eyes, O Beloved.
In my heart bestow only Your mercy.
Oh my Most Merciful, Oh my Master, Oh my Compassionate one.
Oh Lord, how can my days pass without Your presence?
